"The audience enters a dark space with 360° screens, in the middle there is a performer with a virtual reality headset, they put the wireless headphones on discovering a sonic-visual universe that unfolds around them. Throughout the show, the audience establishes a connection between the movement of sound, the virtual reality performer and the visuals, understanding that this aesthetic universe is entirely dependent on the sonic input."

Substance is the collaborative project between Marcos Micozzi (VR Audio Engineer), Hef Prentice (AI, Animation), and Desmond Cheese (Musicians). On this project they explore Virtual Reality as a way of not only re imagining a live performance scenario, but also as a way of re imagining sound as an aesthetic universe, exploring its materiality.

“Substance” proposes a rethinking of the meaning of sound, exploring its materiality and transformative potential with emerging technologies, thinking of sound as both material and metaphor.

The project touches on the concept of movement, questioning what role does movement have within a live performance? Movement becomes a narrative in itself, that translates through sound and visuals, utilising VR as a bridge to connect the organic with the digital.

The central idea lies in transformation: just as movement becomes sound, sound becomes image, and ideas are recycled to create something new, this project reflects how creativity can adapt, evolve, and thrive in an unlimited digital ecosystem. By transforming sound into a multidimensional experience, 'Substance” redefines collaboration in the digital age, showcasing how art and technology can converge to inspire global creativity.
